UCC15240-Q1: Replace UCC14240 with UCC15240

Hi TI engineers,

I'm evaluating UCC14240 in my gate driver design. Due to the limit board area, the UCC14240 has a significant temperature rise about 130C on top case. Does it help on cooling down the case if I replace UCC14240 with UCC15240? Are they Pin-to-Pin? For the same output power, does UCC15240 have lower temperature rise compared with UCC14240? Thanks!

Yes, both UCC14240 and UCC15240 are p2p drop in replacements and you should see some thermal benefit from changing to UCC15240. However, there may also be other reasons why the case temperature is high. I recommend to make sure you use version 8 of the Excel design spreadsheet which you can download here. Also, make sure to the RDR configuration for the RLIM resistor, shown in the version 8 Excel tool and be sure to follow the PCB design guidance shown in section 12.6.1 of the UCC15240 data sheet. Finally, also see section 5.11 of the EVM User Guide which will give you an indication of the thermal performance measured on the UCC15241 EVM.
