TPS1H100-Q1: How to tell fault status when PWMing

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1

We are PWMing this (A series) device and reading the fault status asynchronous to the pwm generator. Is there a way to be able to tell the difference between short to battery, short to ground, and thermal shutdown when PWMing the device?

  • Hello,

For the A version of the device,

    • The status pin ST will pull low for all short to battery, short to ground, and thermal shutdown conditions. The ST output will not be able to distinguish between the 3 events.
    • For the user to distinguish between a short to GND and short to battery, the user can see the voltage on the output to conclude the difference
      • If the output is low, there is a short to GND or thermal shutdown/swing event
      • If the output is high, there is a short to battery event

For the B version of the device,

    • During an open load or short to battery condition occuring in the on-state, the CS voltage is almost 0.
    • Alternatively, when a current limit, thermal shutdown/swing occurs in the off-state, the CS voltage is pulled up to Vcs,h.

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth
