Tool/software:
Hi,
I would like you to confirm about below.
I understand that TPS65987DDK support PD3.1 with alternate mode.
However, I'm not sure this can be used for DP(Display port) source or can be used for only DP sink.
Q1. Can this device be used for both DP source/sink side ?
Q2. If answer of Q1 is no, which device can be used for DP source with PD3.1 alternate mode ?
Best Regards,
Hi Ryuuichi,
Thank you for reaching out!
The TPS65987DDK supports DisplayPort source and sink and is configurable using the GUI tool. See the following application note on DisplayPort: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva844b/slva844b.pdf?ts=1730127909540&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTPS65987D

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
Here is additional question.
Q1. Is my understanding that TPS65987DDK support bill board device class correct ?
Q2. Does TPS65988DK also support PD3.1 ?
Best Regards,
Hi Ryuuichi,
1- Bill board support is typically for thunderbolt designs only. Is this for an Intel reference design? What is the end-application?
2- Yes, both TPS65987/8 DK support PD3.1

Aya Khedr
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.

No, this is not for intel design. In current situation, we will use TPS65987DDK as only PD source(DFP) with alternate mode(Display port).
Therefore, we will not require bill board device class. However I would like to confirm it for the future use case.
If we want to use your device as PD sink(UFP) with alternate mode (in other words, we want to use your device at display side.), which device is recommended ?
BR,
Hi,
The TPS65987DK (single-port) or TPS65988DK (dual-port) supports PD sink with DisplayPort as well.

Good. However, both do not support bill board device class, right ?
BR,
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
Could you please confirm about below as well ?
* Accroding to your information, TPS65987 and TPS65988 are used in Intel reference design.
Is it possible to disclose which Intel CPU's reference board above two devices are used ?
And, if possible, could you please share design information (schematic / layout) about them ?
Best Regards,
Hi Ryuuichi,
Unfortunately, we cannot share Intel reference design schematics without an NDA. Please see the following FAQ for more information on Thunderbolt reference designs.
Best Regards,
Aya Khedr
