TLC5941 vs TLC5941-Q1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5941-Q1, TLC5941

Is the automotive version the exact same chip but binned/tested at higher temps?  I notice that the Q1 datasheet suggests the nominal maximum current be 60mA... is this only to meet the higher operating temps?  I need both automotive and commercial application and so I am considering purchasing Q1 for both.  But it would be nice if the commercial users could still run them at 80mA.

Also, I noticed that the G4 suffix supposedly means "green" but the web site claims the non G4 version is also ROHS.  What is the difference?

Thanks!

  • Hi Andrew,

    Sorry for replying late!

Actually TLC5941 and TLC5941-Q1 are exactly the same chip. In the Q1 datasheet pg.9, you can find the higher the ambient temperature, the lower the max power dissapation according to the figure 4. The nominal maximum current  60mA is calculated on the basis of 125 centigrades ambient temperature. If you want to run the Q1 chip at 80mA. It is OK, but you should confirm the ambient temperature lower than 85 centigrades to prevent thermal shutdown.

G4 is an old wording in TI, all the products of TI are "green" and satisfy ROHS now, there are not any differences.
