I have been searching for a variable regulator with programmable current limit. Maximum Output voltage=40V, Maximum current=10A. I am lokking for the replacement of LM723 with a sharp current limit. Any suggestions are helpful.

As far as LDO, the max current we can go to is 7.5A but it is at a low voltage range. Currently we don't have regulator that can work both at that high Vin and Iout conditions you are asking for.
You can refer to the quick guide for LDO on TI website: http://www.ti.com/lit/sg/slyt228g/slyt228g.pdf
Chaitanya,
As far as LDO, we currently don't have a device that with customer current limit programmable feature. You can ask swich regulator group to see what options they have.
What does your application look like?
Thanks,
