TPS65140 - Max Current on VO1

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65140

Hello TI,

I was looking back at the specs of the TPS65140 to check the max current on VO1.  There are discrepancies in the datasheet.  On page 1, it says “Up to 15V / 400mA”.  On page 2 in the typical application circuit, it says “Up to 15V / 350mA”.  On page 15 (figure 15), it says “Up to 10V / 150mA”.  There are two other examples of this as well.  I understand there are details in regards to your VIN voltage.

I plan to use this with VIN = 5V and was curious if you could confirm the current on this boost converter.  Figure 2 looks like my reference similiar to my circuit which shows 15V at 400mA.

I appreciate your feedback,

Jason Haedt

  • Hello Jason,

The current that is limited on the boost converter is the peak switch current. The minimum current limit for the switch is 1.6A, so with an input voltage of 5V and an output voltage of 15V, you should be able to achieve 400mA.
But this is for sure as well dependent on the external components and the layout you are using. Most important are the losses in the inductor and the diode as well as the thermal behavior of the layout.
For a test if it is possible, we could send you a board. Please send your mail address to me personally and I will ship a board to you.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
