TPS92638-Q1: Can TPS92638 drive the number of LED more than 4 in a string?

 Hello guys,

 One of our customers is considering using TPS92638 with 36V input voltage. Also they want to driver 10 LEDs connected in series. But according to the device datasheet (SLVSCK5B), All application circuits in the datasheet drive LEDs up to 3pcs in series. My question is...

Can TPS92638 drive 10 pcs of LED in a string?

    Hi Kazuya,

    Yes it can drive 10 pcs of LEDs. As long as the input and output voltages are below the absolute maximum ratings, it should be ok. Just keep in mind that thermal is the most important factor to be considered. Due to voltage variations of the LED forward voltage, 10 LEDs in series could lead to large voltage difference between input and output, thus thermal could be a problem. Do check the thermal in the design.
