BQ76925: Can't connect to target device in BQ76925 Evaluation software

Hi,

I am using BQ76925EVM and BQ76925 Evaluation software for evaluation. But the software noticed 'Unable to connect to target device' even if the EVM has been powered and the connection looks good(D13 and D12 are lluminated). Could you please help me to solve this issue?

The OS I use is Win10.

The USB to GPIO adapter should be good, It works with BQ24157EVM.

Hi Mark,

What version of Microsoft Framework are you using?

The two GUIs included are Windows .NET GUIs. They require the Microsoft Framework version 2.0 to be installed on the machine that will run them. There seems to be a requirement to run them from a locally attached drive (C:), rather than from a virtual filesystem on your PC. To run the GUIs, unzip the file to your PC's hard drive and run the executable file (*** not the one with vshost in the name, but either "USB SAA GUI.exe" or "PMBusDebug.exe".

In order to tell if your machine has the .NET Framework version 2.0, you can go to the control panel and select "Add/Remove Programs". Under there, you should see which version of the framework your machine has. Most recent machines have 2.0, but if your PC is older, you will probably have version 1.0. To upgrade, go to the following URL at Microsoft: "www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

If updating to 2.0 does not solve your issue, please draw a diagram or notate an image showing the power and data connections between this device and your test set up.

It seems the .net framework already is already a part of Win10 OS. Microsoft .net framework 2.0 also can't be installed. Please advice how can I do.

Hi Mark,
The USB Interface Adapter is used with a variety of evaluation boards. The BMS tool developer provided a method to update the interface firmware from default to a version which works with several BMS products. See www.ti.com/.../USB2GPIO-LOADER-SW
Other evaluation softwares which may use the USB Interface adapter may update the firmware automatically and leave it in a state unidentifiable to the bq76925 or the updater. I don't know if the BQ24157EVM software is one which leaves the adapter in a bad state or not, but your pictures seem to indicate it is. You might try the LOADER-SW, or check if the BQ24157EVM can return the adapter to default firmware, but there is a good chance that update was a one-way change and you will need a different adapter for the bq76925.

Thanks for you reply, but the adapter still can't be connect with USB2GPIO-LOADER-SW.

I can see the USB to GPIO adapter as a USB input devices

Hi User,
Correct, the USB To GPIO Firmware Loader can only find versions 1.0.0 and 2.0.19. Adapters with other versions are damaged from the point of view of the USB To GPIO Firmware Loader and can not be updated. Replace the USB to GPIO adapter.

Hi User,
Basically yes.
The adapter should still be good, but has been customized to a state which the USB To GPIO Firmware Loader software can't understand.
