TPS53014: Output voltages greater than 7V

Part Number: TPS53014

Hi team,

Can I please understand what causes the maximum output voltage limitation on the TPS53014 and whenever there is anything I could do to use this IC with higher output voltages?

  • Carlos,

I would recommend following datasheet recommendation. The part was designed and evaluated for max Vo=7V.

    Regards,
    Mathew
  • D-CAP is “Direct Capacitor” mode code, and it was based on directly sensing the output voltage and implementing a semi-hysteretic control with a fixed on-time and a variable off-time. In D-CAP2, an internal ramp generator uses the switch node voltage to emulate an ESR ramp on the output capacitor, and that circuit is referenced to the average switch node, which “rides” on an average voltage equal to the output voltage. Because of that ramp generator circuit, the output voltage has to be within the operating range of the internal amplifiers.

Because these are internal circuits referenced to the SW pin and there is no external access to them, I don’t believe there is a way to extend the output voltage range.
