UCC27201: UCC27201

Part Number: UCC27201

Is there any reason why the UCC27201 can't be operated as a hi-side driver only, without utilizing the lo-side driver? If so, what sort of input and or output termination should be used on the lo-side (unused) circuit?

  • Hello Mark,
I am an applications engineer at TI supporting this part and will address your questions.

The UCC27201 can be operated as a high side driver only, without using the low side driver channel.
The LI input should be terminated to ground, if not used, and leave the LO output not connected.

One thing to consider when using the high side driver only, is that the HB-HS capacitor is charged by the HS node switching to ground. At this time the HB to HS capacitor is charged from VDD thru the internal boot diode.
For the HB-HS capacitor to maintain charge, the HS node must switch to ground at some known switching period. Having the low side FET, ensures the HS node, or half-bridge switch node will switch all the way to ground.
