LM5032: LM5032

Part Number: LM5032
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5009

Hello Sir

I want to design an interleaved (two switches in parallel) boost converter having specifications as follows :

Input voltage : 210-310 Vdc

Output Voltage : 400 Vdc fixed

Iout max :5A

I had looked at LM5032 but there are no specifications mentioned anywhere .

Can I use LM5032 for my application ? or else Please suggest the other solution which suits for my design specifications.

Thanks

Regards

Rajashekar

  • Hi Rajashekar,
An interleaved design would consist of two boost converters operating in parallel to drive a single output.
Did you check out the design guide for this part. It describes the evaluation module which is a dual interleaved boost converter? See the link below.
The voltage levels you require are higher but this document gives some detail of the design calculations needed to select the components.
    Thanks

  • Hello Joe Leisten ,

    Thanks for your reply.

I have gone through the document of LM5032.

It helps me to select the components but can I use the controller LM5032 for my application where i mentioned earlier ?

    Input voltage : 210-310 Vdc

Output Voltage : 400 Vdc fixed

Iout max :5A ; these are boost interleaved design requirements.

and what is input range and output range specifications of that controller like ( voltage , current ) ?

  • Hi Rajashekar Koutla,

LM5032 should be fine for the higher voltage level since the controller does not see the actual input or output voltage.

Provided you supply the required VCC power and apply the appropriate divide ratios for the input and output voltage then all should be fine.

You will not be able to use the LM5009 device to supply VCC because it is only rated up to 100V input.

    Thanks

  • Hello Joe Leisten
    Thanks for your reply.
So, I can now use the LM5032 for my application where the input range is 210-310Vdc and output voltage is 400Vdc fixed.
whatever the input voltage ,but supply given to the Vin and Vcc should not exceed the recommended operating conditions.
proper care to be taken in calculating the resistor divider at Vin pin as shown in the typical application circuit. Am I right ?
and the remaining calculations for each components is same as mentioned in the design document of that datasheet ?
    Thanks

  • Hi Rajashekar Koutla,
Looking at Figure 5 Schematic of Evaluation Board:
The resistor divider feeding the UVLO pin (R6, R7, R8) must be adjusted because your input voltage is higher.
The resistor divider feeding the output error amplifier (R27-29) must change because your output voltage is higher.
All the power stage components must change because of higher voltage. (C1-C4, L2,L3, D2, Q1,Q2, C15-20, R12,R13)
Finally the whole circuit generating VCC must change because U2 is not suitable for 310Vdc input voltage.
If you follow the method given in the design example, with your revised voltage parameters then it should work.
    I hope this is clear.
    Thanks
