LM5069: What is the diffence between dv/dt and timer?

Guru 10800 points
Part Number: LM5069

Hi team.

We are considering adding a dv/dt circuit in our schematic with an inductive load.

But we could not understand why it is need.

Could you let me know what difference between dv/dt and timer.

I think the same as the start delay.

Sincerely.

Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

    Thanks for reaching us!
dv/dt circuit controls the output voltage ramp rate thereby limits the inrush current into the load. It is helpful while driving load having huge capacitance.

The Timer function starts counting time when the device operates either in power limit or current limit mode. Timer is active only during fault and can be called as fault blanking period. The period can be adjusted with capacitor at the timer pin.

Please fill the design calculator www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware and send it for review.
Can you share your application details and the load.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hi Rakesh.

Thank you so much for your quick response.

My understanding is the dv/dt circuit can be adjusted the GATE voltage.
    Is that correct?

My customers are still in the stage of component selection, so I will consult if more specific.

    Sincerely.
    Kengo.
  • Hi Kengo,

Your understanding is correct. dv/dt circuit adjusts the rate of rise of GATE voltage.

  • Hi Rakesh.
    Thank you for your kindness!!

    Sincerely.
