PG pin is an open drain output hence it requires a pull up resistor from a voltage source to bias the pin. 499K ohm was selected to minimize the power consumption of the circuit when the pin is Low. Much higher value is not recommended too as not to make the pin susceptible to external noise when the pin is High.
