TPS23756: PoE controller (TPS2373/TPS23756) for 51W with 16 to 57V input?

Part Number: TPS23756
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP, TPS2373-4EVM-758, , , PMP20551

Team,

I am looking for advises (like TI reference design, app notes) for the below scenario:

  • POE/POE+ with 16 to 57Vin -> 24VDC / 2A
  • POE/POE+ with 16 to 57Vin -> 12.5VDC / 2.5A

-Do we have some TIDA/PMP that can support BUCK and BOOST for PoE with above specs?
-What do we advise for such scenario? The idea would to have a similar controller for both use cases.

-Can the TPS23756EVM or TPS2373-4EVM-758 be used with in conjunction of a DC/DC EVM as a proof of concept for the above specs?

-http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-050023  seem ok for the power level but the Vin range is too little (42 to 57V).
For the DC/DC portion the http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP7279 could be an option.

As starting point I looked at the below but I was not able to find something that closely match the specs:

Thanks in advance,

A.

  • Hi A.,

    Thank you for your question. For clarification, is the 16V minimum input voltage requirement PoE or is this the adapter voltage? Does the customer care about being compliant to the PoE standards? Based on your response, this will help me to narrow down my answer.

    Best Regards,

    Brett

  • Hi Brett,

    Thanks for the answer.

    -> 16V is for the adapter voltage/auxiliary supply. The Vin from PoE would be 36V to 57V.
    ->The system will not be certified against the PoE/PoE+ std but it need to interoperate with any commercial PoE/PoE switches.

  • Hi A,.

    I recommend using the TPS23756 for the 12V/2.5A solution since this is a Type 2 application. I recommend using the same power stage as PMP20551 except using the TPS23756 PWM Controller. For the Type 3 24V/2A, I recommend the TPS2373-3. Unfortunately the above requested design is not above one that we have in our PoE design portfolio. I will send you a private message and we can continue to discuss offline. Thanks!

    Best Regards,

    Brett
