BQ24079: Charge and recharge fucnition

Part Number: BQ24079
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24075

Hi,

Could you please give your advice for below questions of bq24079?

a) Recharge:
Will bq24079 always run recharge?  e.g. will the device start recharge below procedure?

1. Detect fully charge and terminate charging( 9pin (CHG status) will be Low to high impedance)
2. Host MCU set the 4 pin (CE) to High (disabling battery charge)
3. Host MCU set the 4 pin (CE) to Low (enabling battery charge)
4. bq24079 start charging.
5. bq24079 detect terminate current ( 1/10 ISET) and stop charging.

At procedure #4, Is there conditions which would not start charging such as Vbat is over 4.0V or charging current already be <1/10 ISET?

b) CHG Status
The datasheet explains "Recharging after termination" is High-impedance in Table 3.
During recharging, will the CHG output be high impeadance? or will the output set Low once charging start?

c) Reset Timer
To reset timer(TMR), datasheet explains that toggling CE pin or toggling EN1,EN2 pin. Is there requirement time to toggle CE?

e.g  CE : L -> ??ms -> H -> ??ms -> L -> …

d) Setting ISET
User would like to change the resistance value of ISET during charging. (He would like to adjust charging current during charging) Is it  possible to change the value?

e) Differences between bq24079 and bq24075
I believe the difference is the charging current. Is there another differences?

Regards,
Nagata.

  • Hello Shunsuke-San,

As long as the battery voltage is below VBATREG and you toggle /CE after termination, recharge will be restarted if there is no thermal regulation, or TS fault.

/CHG is only low in during the first charge cycle. After the first cycle, /CHG will be high impedance even when charging. However, if you toggle /CE, a new charge cycle begins and /CHG will be low when charging.

There is no time requirement for toggling /CE but i'll recommend 1ms

User do this by connecting another resistor which is connected through a FET which is controlled by MCU

Difference between them is VBATREG voltage, VOUTREG voltage and VDPPM Voltage. charging current is the same. Please take a look at the comparison table on the page 6 of the datasheet.
