TPS76901-HT: Output Current Profile

Part Number: TPS76901-HT

Hello,

I had a question concerning the output current of the TPS76901-HT device.  I know the maximum rated current is 100mA, but the DS says the current limit is 505mA at 210degC.  Do you have any information on the change of output voltage when the load current increases from 100mA to 500mA?  I am assuming the voltage folds back but want to know how the voltage behaves (especially between 200mA-300mA).

Thank you,

Brandon

  • Hi Brandon,

The TPS76902-HT has what we call a brick wall current limit. When this engages VOUT will fall and the voltage across the device will increase which leads to thermal shutdown. We did not characterize behavior beyond the recommended limit, but the impact to VOUT as a function of load current is likely to increase:

The current limit is in place to protect the LDO in the event of an abnormal event at the output. It is not recommended operating beyond the 100mA rated current. This is not a very precise threshold so it could engage between 200-300mA.

I hope this answers your question.
