LP5912: Paralleling

Part Number: LP5912

Hi, I have a little question. I am using LP5912-1.5DRVT 1.5V version.

Can I use multiple LP5912-1.5DRVT as parallel ? Lets say three of them.

They will use same input 5V and their output will be shorted.

Thank you,

Best Regards.

  • Hi Jamiryo,

It would be very difficult to ensure that they share. What is the reason for wanting to do this? We do have application notes for sharing other LDO's but these are typically adjustable LDO's.

if you need to support up to 1.5A with really low noise, either the TPS7A92 or TPS7A83A can do this easily.

Do you think either of these can work for you?

  • Hi JCHK,

Actually, I do not need high currents. Totally 50mA, its too low for LP5912. My customer wants to backup 1.5V supply rail with LDO's.

I think I should use oring diodes at the output of LP5912's. Do you agree with that ? or Can I connect the outputs directly ?

    Thank you

  • Hi Jamiryo,

If it for backup supply that is different. With the LP5912 and 5VIN and 1.5VOUT, ORing Diodes would not be required if you are OK with the fact that when one of the parallel regulators is disabled, it will try to pull-down the output with a ~100Ohm resistor.

I think maybe the TPS706 might be better for paralleling as it does not have this active pull-down feature and it also has reverse current blocking. No diodes are required for this solution.

    Does this answer your question?
