TPS2H000-Q1: Hitting Tsd

Hi,

If Tj hits Tsd as below, should we consider that the device was damaged?

    That is not correct. The point of thermal shutdown is to shut off the device and protect it so that the device does not get damaged. After the junction temperature cools to below the thermal shutdown reset level you can assume that the device is fully functional and will operate within the datasheet parameters.

    T(sd) 160℃ is higher than Tj max 150℃ as below.

    I think that the device is damaged when Tj achieves to T(sd).

    Does the device recover after damage?

  • Hello Kuramochi-san,

    The operating junction temperature is meant to be the steady state DC number that the device is recommended to be operated at. The thermal shutdown threshold is meant for fault/transient conditions and is specifically there to protect the device from being damaged. While it is not recommended to continuously repeatedly hit thermal shutdown the device will not be damaged if you do so.

    The TPS2H000-Q1 is rated as Grade A for the AEC-Q100-012 Short-Circuit Reliability Test. For a cold repetitive short (long pulse) and hot repetitive short in this tests the device is shorted a million times with no effects on reliability. During these short circuit tests the device will reach thermal shutdown several times. For more information on this reliability tests please refer to the following application note:
