BQ40Z50-R2: BQ40Z50: SMBUS VCC for 3.3V.

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hi, Team

our customer using BQ40Z50 and they prefer to check below questions, could u help to give some comments?

1, whether our device support 3.3V pull up for SMBUS? our datasheet just shows that our SMBUS test condition is VREG = 1.8 V, we needs to check whether it can support 3.3V.

2, if our device can support 3.3V pull up, what's the VIH/VIL/VOL while in 3.3V condition? our datasheet just shows VIH/VIL/VOL at 1.8V condition.

3, I suppose the SMBUS(I2C) is open drain output, and needs external pull up resistor. what's the external pull up resistor value do we recommend?

Thanks.

  • Hello GW,

    1. We have used 3.3 volts on the bq40z50 EVM. The Vreg is the LDO and determines the VIL and VOH levels.

    2. Please look at the SMBus specification. This just tells you how the IC determines the high and low levels with respect to pin voltage.

    3. Look at the TI EVM.
