Hi,

I am looking for an LDO or regulator IC that work with 2.5 to 6V input.

My main supply is 9-28V DC - so using LM1085 to convert that down to 6V, this is going to a battery charger IC having power path.

Output side of the battery charger will then be 6V if running on external supply or 2.5V to 3.6V when running on battery, i.e range is 2.5 to 6V.

LDO output I need 4V , 2A.

Do you have an LDO option that can work for this range?

I found LP3856 /LP3876 but i need to confirm this is still active and I consider this for new designs? (I saw these ICs are 'No Longer Manufactured' in Farnell website)

If you can suggest a better option also would be great.

Hi Sarath,

Thank you for sending this request over. I would go ahead and recommend our TPS7A92. This is one of our latest releases in this current range. In case you can actually use < 2A we also have P2P in 500mA / 1A variants (TPS7A90, TPS7A91).

Hi Wilson,

Thanks very much for your reply, I will use this TPS7A92.

In the input stage as I said earlier I selected LM1085 to convert 9-28V to 5V but I think I need nearly 4.25A current (system current 2.5A + battery charging 1.75A).

Can I use LM1084, 5A regulator for new designs instead of LM1085 or is that obsolete?

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hey Sarath,

Wilson is OoO for a few days so I wanted to follow up, so you aren't left waiting.

Yes you can use LM1084, it is not obsolete and you can order from https://www.ti.com/product/LM1084#order-quality

If your total current ends up being a little lower we also have some newer devices which can provide 4A in case you are interested. Those would be TPS7A85A or TPS7A54.

Hi,

My main input voltage is 9-28V DC so do you have any switching regulator option other than LM1084 that can give 5V, 5A output since that will heat up in that high input-output difference?

(The other options you given have input voltage max range only up to 6.5V).

I am also looking for a stand alone buck-boost converter that can convert 2.5 - 5V input to 4V , 2A output - do you have any options?

You can consider the TPS56637 for the 9 to 28V, 5V at 5A application. You can use WEBENCH to help select the right products that would meet your design requirement. Here is a link to the tool.
