TPS3823: Short Circuit Current rating

Part Number: TPS3823

I am using TPS3823-25. RESET pin is also connected to JTEG port and during the programming , it will be pulled low. This will create a short circuit on RESET pin of TPS3823.

if I see the spec of TPS3823-25, the short circuit rating is 400uA. So whether I need to use a current limiting resistor at the output of TPS3823. What should be the resistor value ?

also whether this 400uA is for -40 to +85C or for room temperature ?

Also whether any pull down is required at the RESET pin for keeping the RESET output low below 1V supply ?

  • Hi Sunil,

The current from the RESET pin is self limiting.  A resistor can be added to limit the short circuit current but be mindful that adding a current limiting resistor can make the low output be a higher voltage.

Yes the short circuit current is over -40C to +85C.

According to the datasheet, the TPS3823-25 RESET pin can sink 1mA of current and meet the VOL spec of 0.4V max.  Again be mindful that adding a current limiting resistor on the RESET pin can affect your RESET voltage.

  • Hi Ben,

thanks for the information. Whether " self limit current from the RESET pin " indicate that there will not be IC damage if RESET is short circuit to ground, and VDD is above the threshold ?

  • Hi Sunil,

Yes, shorting the RESET pin to GND will not result in IC damage once VDD is above the threshold.

  • I am sorry for late reply. I am still working on this configuration.

whether we have to put a capacitor on RESET line ? is it recommended ?

  • Hi Sunil,

No problem with the late reply. :-)  Yes, you can add a capacitor on the RESET line but be mindful that the RESET signal will have a RC time constant response.
