TPS3828: pulse detection to enable/disable charger circuit

Part Number: TPS3828
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3431, TPS3851

Hi,

Our customer is searching for standalone HW solution (no MCU required) that can disable/enable a charger circuit based on the pulse activity of an SPI bus. That is, when the WDI keeps pulsing the RESET would remain high and when WDI remains low for some time the RESET would remain low as long as WDI isn't pulsing.  I was looking at the TPS382x family but the problem is that the these devices have a fixed delay time.  Do you have a solution for this requirement?

Thanks

  • Hi Kelvin,

I believe the TPS3431 or TPS3851 will meet the customer's requirements for their application.  Both of these parts have an adjustable/programmable watchdog time that is set by an external resistor.  Please let me know if you have other questions.

    Thanks,

  • Ben,

Both TPS3431 and TPS3851 have a reset timeout period (tRST from the timing diagram in datasheet figure 1) so WDO will automatically de-assert without WDI changing.  In my application, this would mean that the charger would be re-enabled after tRST without requiring the SPI's CLK (input to WDI) to be re-activated, which is not what we want in this application.

I found TPS3420.  This looks like it will work for this application.

  • Hi Kelvin,

I am glad that you have found a part that will work for your application.  Can you close this thread if you don't have any more questions.  Thanks!
