TPS2543: Cutting off USB VBUS during overcurrent condition

TPS2543 is of interest in CDP mode however there are a few questions if the response experienced is normal and way of implementing response needed for over current. Would like for the USB VBUS to cut off when there is an abnormal condition such as a short circuit.

Testing the TPS2543 on a power bank with a 700mA current limit shows that while the fault is tripped it continues to charge the device at 700mA with a 5V vbus. The question is, it possible to test the overcurrent limit with a device or would you need to create a short scenario as it seems like TPS2543  allows an overcurrent condition until it reaches a thermal fault, requiring the load to attempt to draw an excess amount not typically seen in compliant devices.

    Yes it is possible to test the current limit of the device, by increasing current slowly over the current limit.  

    The FAULT signal will be asserted during over-temperature or current limit conditions. When an over-current condition is detected, the device maintains a constant output current and reduces the output voltage accordingly. Your test is showing the device behave as expected during an over-current condition by moving into constant-current mode. You can also test out a short and will see similar functionality. Check out the section 8.3.8 for more information on device behavior during an over-current condition.
