TPS54302: Design verification, Vin = 12V and Vout = 5V

Hi,

I have used TPS54302 in my below design.
Can you please check/verify my below design circuit and the layout and let me know if it is fine?

The above layout is referred from the user's guide of TPS54302 Evaluation Module.

TPS54302EVM-716 3-A Regulator Evaluation Module User's Guide (Rev. A)

Can you please clarify my below concerns

1.Is it okay to connect the SW trace through via (other layer) to inductor?
2.The trace width of the SW trace in between the capacitor C77 is 39mils, i.e. 1mm. Is the trace width enough for 3A output current?

Hi，

Please see my comments below:

1. The inductor seems a little large for me, recommend 6.8uH or 10uH.

2.Not recommend to place switching trace under devices .

3.Recommend to place C78 as close to VIN pin.

4. it's okay to connect the SW trace through via (other layer) to inductor

5.What's the thickness for the copper,length, heating? with 1mm width ? you can go to below link for reference

Can you please clarify my below points.

Here, by devices you mean the capacitor C77 or (the switching trace connected to) capacitor C71?
If you mean C77, this is implemented just like in the EVM, so please confirm this?

2."What's the thickness for the copper,length, heating?"

Thickness of copper is 1.784mils
Trace length is 10mm approx.
Temperature rise is 5C

Can we rely on the values obtained by the above calculator for practical applications?

Hi ,

The switching trace is the BST-SW trace connected to capacitor C71.

The value based on the calculator is reliable .

Dear Young,

The BST-SW trace is connected to C71 in the bottom layer and also please note that the PCB is 6 layers. Please let me even then the trace is to be avoided under the device?
