Buck controller recommendation inquiry.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28610, LM27403

Hi, TI expert.

Request for Buck controller recommendation.

I made an inquiry with the following information and received a response as follows.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Questions]

- Input: 3-phase 4-wire single-phase standard (176Vac ~ 264Vac)

- Output: 4 channels
DC 12V, 30W
DC 12V, 12W
DC 12V, 12W
DC 12V, 12W

[Requirements]
1) Input, output isolation, output 4-channel GND separation
2) Each output power overcurrent protection
3) Regulation output voltage within 3%
4) Products capable of initial IC operating voltage DC
5) IC with input control (enable pin)
6) Total efficiency over 81%
7) Operating temperature -25 degrees to 70 degrees

[Reply]

The total output power is 66W, it is belong the range of Flyback.

I recommended to use UCC28610 as Flyback controller, conver AC input to 15V DC.

And use separate Buck controller for each output channel since the output regulation and dedicated OCP function.

The MOT pin of UCC28610 can be configured as enable pin.

Regarding to Buck controller, I suggest you to ask part number from non-isolate forum.

I would like to request a Buck Controller recommendation suitable for the above answers.

please check.

Thank you.

  • Hi ,

I recommend trying to use WEBENCH Power Designer to find suitable buck regulators.

See below example, I entered 14.5V-15.5V input, 12V output at 2.5A (30W) and under Design Consideration I entered a max ambient temp of 70degC:

After clicking View Designs, I filtered for Enable and Adjustable Current Limit under IC Features:

I could further filter for a minimum efficiency if I desired.

There isn't a filter for pre-bias startup (I believe this is what you mean by "4) Products capable of initial IC operating voltage DC"), so you would have to look up each device's datasheet to see if it supports this. I do know that LM27403 (shown in the above screenshot) does support pre-bias startup.

You can Customize any design to see more details about its output ripple, efficiency, etc.

    Regards,
    Kris
