TL1451A: Current limit

Part Number: TL1451A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP8646, LM5176

Hi team

My customer has been using TL1451A. I received a question about current limiting of this device.

Customer is currently using at Vin=32V, Vout=28V.

1-1. Is it possible to set a current limit for this device? For example, when the output current reaches 5A, the current is limited, and if the limitation continues for more than 100ms, the device stops.

1-2. Could you provide the recommended circuit of the current limit?

2. Could you introduce a DC/DC converter which can meet following condition?

- Input voltage rating is 40V

-Output current 15A

-Vout accuracy is +/-1%

-Current limit function

-100% duty cycle

Regards,

Yamaguchi

  • Hello Yamaguchi,

1-1 and 1-2: No, the device does not measure the current and therefore cannot limit it. You would need to add some current limiter like LMP8646.

    2. What is the required output voltage? If the output voltage can be higher or lower than the input voltage, I would suggest LM5176.

  • Hello Brigitte,

Thanks for your advice. For the #2, the condition is Vin=32V, Vout=28V, so they may not need buck-boost converter. Do you have any recommendation for buck converter?
