BQ34Z100-G1: "Voltage balanced while resting" ??

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100

Hello;

Section 7.1 of the datasheet includes this statement...Please explain what this means "which are voltage balanced while resting" ...is this a reference to the Est SOC vs. OCV reading taken while the battery is resting?

"The bq34z100-G1 device accurately predicts the battery capacity and other operational characteristics of
a single cell or multiple rechargeable cell blocks, which are voltage balanced when resting
"

  • Jeffery,

    I am sorry to say i do not know what the TRM is describing with that sentence. The bq34z100 does not offer cell balancing since it does not have insight into the individual cells. It relies on another device like a battery monitor to perform cell balancing functions.

    Thanks,

  • So, just to be clear, am I interpreting the statement correctly  that - "which are voltage balanced while resting" ..is simply referring to the Est SOC vs. OCV reading taken while the battery is resting?

  • Jeffery,

    Yes, it is meaning all the cells in the stack are balanced to the same point. they are "Balanced" in terms of their SOC/capacity. If the cells are well matched their resting voltage will be the same for the same state of charge

    Thanks,
