TPS54540: What is the maximum shell temperature that TPS5450IC can withstand

Part Number: TPS54540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS5450,

I have an IC TPS5450 of your home, and I want to know what is the maximum shell temperature that this IC can withstand, because the maximum shell temperature tested has reached 120℃.

  • Hi Ken,

TPS54540 integrated HS Mosfet. When the device working with high output current, the power loss will lead to a rise of junction temperature. Normally, we don't have a clear limit on shell temperature, the key point is junction temperature.  We have to use "shell temperature" to calculate junction temperature to check if it is acceptable. So we need to calculate the power loss on TPS54540. Please check with your detailed application condition.

The recommend operation condition of TPS54540's Junction temperature is -40~150℃. And this device have a thermal shutdown feature, which means it will shutdown when the junction reach 176℃(typical).

  • Hi,

Add an application note about how to calculate the junction temp.
