TLV62585 start-up waveform without load

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV62585

Hi...

My customer is verifying the performance of TLV62585 and asked some questions as follows.

1. Why does this voltage step like red arrow of Picture 1. cause?

2. I think that fluctuation of input voltage can be caused by inrush current from output load capacitance. Is it right?

3. What is recommended output load capacitance range? (expected output load capacitance is 30uF to 90uF)

4. If inrush current is occurred at voltage step period, can input or output voltage power rail be damaged or not?

Please let me know that.

Thanks.

  • Hi Jeffrey,

    1) this is normal behavior of the device. The inductor current on the first switching cycles goes up to about 1A.
By adding a 8.2pF feed forward capacitor this first output voltage step can be reduced as the converter will react faster when output voltage reaches the first target of the soft start ramp.
    2) Not sure if I understand your question. The output capacitance has no impact on the inductor peak current if capacitor range is within recommended range.
    3) The recommended output capacitor range is 10uF to 47uF.
    4) Not sure if I understand the question. But the converter cannot get damaged during power-up as the inductor peak current is always controlled.

    Best regards,
    Ivo
