TPSM84824: single TPSM84824 for three DAC38RF80 1v digital VDDDIG supply

Part Number: TPSM84824
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC38RF80,

Hi TI,

I have already asked this question on Data Converter forum.

But i got recommendation to ask this on Power Forum, so I posted the same question, which is below, on Power forum.

We are designing data acquistion boards with ADC12DJ3200 and DAC38RF80 for our customer.
We are using three Nos. of ADC12DJ3200 and three Nos. of DAC38RF80.
We are designing sepearate boards for ADCs and DACs.
We have selected TPSM84824 series regulators for all power supplies for  both ADC and DAC boards after taking reference from TI reference design TIDA-01027, although TIDA-01027 design is USED only for ADC12DJ3200.

ADC and DAC boards will be prototype boards and we will be evaluating all the available modes of ADC and DAC.
Now, power consumption of ADCs and DACs is differernt for different modes.

For DAC38RF80 ,for MODE1: current consumption for 1v digital supply VDDDIG1 is Typical: 1478mA and Max: 2290mA. So if we take Maximum current consumption rating , then for three DACs it is 6.87A.

And for MODE3: current consumption for 1v digital supply is Typical: 2253mA and maximum current rating is not given in datasheet for this mode. So for typical current consumption rating , current for three DACs is 6.759A.

If we see difference between typical and maximum current in MODE1, it is 812mA for 1 DAC and 2.436A for three DACs.

So my questions are:

1. What is the maximum current rating for 1v digital supply in MODE3 for DAC38RF80?

2. Is TPSM84824 good choice for DAC38RF80?

3. Will single TPSM84824 be able to handle current requirements for three  DAC38RF80 1v digital supply VDDDIG1.?

Ambient temperature wll be around 45 degree celcius and DAC and ADC boards will be in chassis(inlet and outlet fans will be installed on chassis).

Thanks,

Lalit

  • Hi Lalit,

I do not know the Max current requirement for the DAC38RF80. I assume the amount of current draw would be application and feature dependant. The data converter team would be better suited to answer this question.

For questions 2 & 3, the TPSM84824 can operate from 4.5V to 17V input and supply 8A. This device is a good choice as long as the your total current is <8A and your supply voltage is within range.
