TPS65131: May we have support +/- 15Vout (Iout 100mA) soultion?

Part Number: TPS65131
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62143, LM5160, PMP10733, PTN04050C, LMZ34002

Hi Sir

My customer Vin can be 5V or 9V.

and request Vout is +/- 15V Iout 100mA. may we have suggest solution?

Another request is  Vin can be 5V or 9V.

and request Vout is +/- 40V Iout 100mA.

  • Hi,

I have notified our expert regarding this topic. Please expect a response by 5/22/19.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Bogey,

Thank you for your question, there are many ways to achieve the desired results.

    Here are some possibilities.

FIRST DESIGN: Vin can be 5V or 9V, Vout is +/- 15V Iout 100mA.
TPS65131 can meet the requirements for:
    5Vin, +-15Vout, 100mA Iout

Put a buck converter in front of the TPS65131 to allow operation at 9V
    TPS62143  3.0-17Vin, 2Amp Iout, Synchronous buck.
100% duty cycle mode so this would allow Vin = 5V and Vout = 5V.
This would power the TPS65131 with either 5Vin or 9Vin.

Here is a reference design that meets the 5Vin, +-15Vout, 100mA Iout  specifications.
    http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP10733

                5V to 20V in, +/-15V @150mA output, 4.5W Pout total
PMP10733 uses the LM5160 in a Fly-Buck-Boost topology with the primary set as to a negative voltage.  Setting the primary side to a negative voltage reduces the turn’s ratio of the transformer and yield better line and load regulation as a result.  The primary and secondary voltages are set to negative 15V and positive 15V respectively.  The maximum operating current on the primary and secondary rails are set to 150mA.  The switching frequency is set to 200 kHz.

From a MODULE standpoint, these are the choices:
PTN04050C   12W, 3.3/5-V INPUT, WIDE OUTPUT ADJUSTABLE BOOST CONVERTER
    5Vin, +15Vout max, 250mA

LMZ34002 15-W Negative Output Power Module With 4.5-V to 40-V Input in QFN Package
    4.5 to 40Vin, Vout -17V adjustable, 100mA Iout

    SECOND DESIGN: Vin 5V or 9V, Vout is +/- 40V Iout 100mA.
                         2x4W=10Winput at 80% efficiency; 10W 5Vin = 2Amp

This will need to be a discrete design.
Two, single stage converters, one making +40V and one making -40V.
You could do the second design as a dual output flyback, however I cannot find any reference designs to forward.

Here are 2 Webench designs, there are many other IC’s that can also meet the need.
