AMIC110: DDR3 interface termination resistors

Genius 12760 points
Part Number: AMIC110

I have noticed that the AMIC110ICE_EVM board for the DDR3 interface no termination resistors (address & control lines) are provided. Accordingly a corresponding VTT control is also missing.

With the AM335X EVM board both (as usual) is present.

My questions:
  - Can I take over the DDR3 circuitry from the AMIC110_EVM without problems, even if I don't use the same DDR3 chip (MT41K256M16TW)?
  - What are the reasons that caused TI to deviate from the "standard" circuitry?

Regards Bernd

  • Bernd, a "no VTT" topology is allowed if you only have one DDR device so all signals are point-to-point connections.  The AM335x EVM has a fly-by topology with multiple devices, necessitating the need for VTT.  Note that some devices have multiple dies in one package, and this would also require VTT.  Only single device, point-to-point signaling would be allowed with no VTT
