TMDS243GPEVM: Documentation Mismatch OSPI vs xSPI Boot Up

Part Number: TMDS243GPEVM

AM243x MCU+ SDK: EVM Setup (ti.com)
Documentation "Run the SOC Initialization Script" for AM243X-EVM
Indicates OSPI Primary Boot Selected.

In contrast the User's guide indicates

AM64x/AM243x GP EVM User's Guide (Rev. D) (ti.com)
Table 3-9 Indicates the switch settings is xSPI Primary Boot Selected.

Which is correct? Did I misunderstand xSPI?

  • Hello Frank,

In chapter 4.4 (Boot Modes)  of the AM243x TRM it states, "If the flash memory is compliant with JEDEC xSPI standards JESD251 (xSPI) and JESD216D (SFDP), then xSPI boot mode is additionally supported." The AM243x GPEVM uses the S28HS512TGABHM010 from Cypress.  For more information on the GP EVM OSPI Flash interface, refer to chapter 3.4.8.3 (OSPI Interface) of the GP EVM User's Guide. For more information on xSPI, refer to the AM243x TRM chapters 4.4.1 (OSPI, xSPI, QSPI, SPI Boot) and 4.4.1.2 (xSPI Boot). In the instance of the AM243x GPEVM, xSPI boot is using OSPI0 interface with some additional features such as Serial Flash Discoverable Parameters (SFDP).

    Regards,

    Erik
