AM6548: How to support SGMII mode?

Hello.

Can AM6548 support SGMII mode? I can not find any drivers about SGMII mode for the AM6548 on Processor-SDK-LINUX-RT-AM65X-08_02,neither ethernet driver nor SerDes driver have SGMII mode. But I see the AM6548 ICSSG2 MII_RT_G support SGMII in AM65x Processors Technical Reference Manual. How can I use SGMII mode on Linux?

Hello,

The hardware of ICSSG2 is capable of supporting SGMII mode. However, that does not mean that we have written software that enables SGMII.

By default we support RGMII on the AM65x EVM, and we also tested MII starting in Linux SDK 8.1. As far as I can tell, TI has NOT written software that enables SGMII. I am double-checking with the developers just to make sure SGMII was never tested. Please ping the thread if I do not have a followup response by the middle of next week.

If I try to write a driver software to enable SGMII,I wonder if I should modify the PRU firmware.Since we do not have the source code of PRU firmware PRU_ETH, if we should modify it, this will not be possible.

Please note that we can answer questions about getting TI drivers working. However, if you do decide to write your own driver, we will not be able to help you debug.

I am not sure if there would be firmware changes required to user SGMII. I am reassigning your thread to a team member familiar with the PRU_ICSSG firmware to comment.

Hi,

Currently we are supporting MII, RGMII modes only and we have not tested the SGMII mode operation and the driver side support also not available for SGMII at the moment.

We have to use sgmii because of the hardware design.It would be very helpful if you could provide us with some information about serdes config for sgmii. Any suggestions about SGMII would be useful.

Our ability to support AM65 is limited and if the features are not already on EVM or existing SDK, we will not be able to provide much guidance on this. Sorry for the limited ability to support on your query.
