AM4377: Could AM4377 replace AM4376BZDND80?

Part Number: AM4377
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM4376

Hi Expert,

The customer used AM4376BZDND80 to develop products before, and wanted to switch to AM4377 due to material shortage

The customer wants to know if there is any modification required to replace AM4376 software and hardware with AM4377

The specific shows 2 differences. The speed may not support 300MHz frequency, but we want to know if still support internal process, say, power saving mode.

Another is register value, not sure if any FW change needed.

Thanks

Daniel

  • Hello Daniel,

In general, we would expect that AM4377 would be able to replace AM4376 as long as nothing is removed from the device features comparison table.

Please describe your concern about power saving a bit more. For example, what software and software version is running on the AM437x device? How is the customer implementing power savings?

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Nick

Our major concern is power consumption, will AM4377 runs only above 800 MHz since there is no 300 MHz support? Even in very low load such as sleep mode? I am checking with customer for SW/FW version and will be back to you soon.

    Thanks

    Daniel

  • Hello Daniel,

I am reassigning your thread to our engineer who supports Linux power questions to comment (assuming customer is running Linux on the ARM core).

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Daniel,

By sleep mode mode, do you mean the Low Power mode such as Standby or DeepSleep mode described in the TRM? In Standby or DeepSleep mode, the CPU is in WFI or powered off, so the power consumption is irrelevant to the CPU frequency - 300MHz or 800MHz, which is CPU runtime clock.
