Hello everyone, 

I am Giulio Bonetti, firmware developer working for an EMS company located North Italy. I am considering the use of an AM6442 processor for an industrial application of our customer.

Actually in the required specifications we were asked to provide the multi-protocol capability: among the available standard they asked also Profibus.

Such a device is equipped with PRU-ICSS(G) so, at least at the HW level, it should be able to handle the PROFIBUS protocol as it does in the AM3359 (already available to us).

Do you know if TI will support PROFIBUS? Is a porting from AM3359 to AM6442 possibile (maybe the PRU-ICSS(G) is the same/similar)?

    Hi Giulio,

    Currently we do not have a firm date for a TI supported PROFIBUS release and so the only option would be to work with a 3rd party like TMG (https://www.tmgte.de/en/)

    The PRU-ICSS(G) has a backwards compatibility mode with PRU-ICSS(M) but there are other factors that must be accounted for in porting the AM3359 PROFIBUS stack to the AM64x family.  TMG would be able to best comment on the scope of work required to port the code over to the AM64x.

    Hi Michael,

    I thank you for the prompt response.

    Since I have already bothered you, I dare to ask you also for some information regarding the SORTE protocol.

    In this document "">www.ti.com/.../sprach6d.pdf i found the following sentece: "Sitara processors currently support SORTE using PRU-ICSS. SORTE is an open-source protocol developed by TI. AM64x MCU+ SDK will include a giga-bit version of SORTE."

    I downloaded the most recent SDK from TI but there is nothing about SORTE.

    Do you have some information in this regard? Is it possibile to perform the porting of the SORTE protocol from the AM3359 to the AM6442 processor? Is it supported?

    We would like to adopt it for giga-bit ethernet in one of our industrial customer.

    I confirmed we do not have SORTE support in the AM64x MCU+SDK as you pointed out and unfortunately at this time I can't give you a date as to when it will be added.
