When you say USB as flashing you mean DFU boot mode?

ROM Code does support USB DFU mode for transferring the binaries.

ROM code first checks the primary boot mode. For example: If SD boot mode is primary then ROM code tries to find the tiboot3.bin in Primary boot mode but if not present
then it will try DFU USB boot mode if you have chosen that as the backup boot mode.
