AM6548: How to boot U-Boot via Ethernet

Part Number: AM6548

Tool/software:

Hi

I've been looking for alternative ways to boot U-Boot for a custom design we have created. Is it possible to boot U-Boot on to the system via ethernet? I've taken a look at the Linux SDK documentation and it does not seem to be supported/clear instructions for booting U-Boot.

  • Hi,

The AM65 has the ability to boot over ethernet but is not recommended due to this errata:

i2329 MDIO: MDIO interface corruption (CPSW and PRU-ICSS)

At the moment there is not documentation after looking through the user documentation. Could you please tell me more about your system? Would Ethernet boot be a one time use or how you would plan to boot the processor?

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler

  • We have a custom design that currently supports booting from SD. We would like to remove the SD card and program the eMMC one time. We have an ethernet interface at the moment. We would boot via U-Boot and VxWorks.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the info. To confirm this is a one time use of Ethernet Boot to program the product at production?

On other Sitara processors there are examples for Ethernet boot. TI will not have examples for downloading and programming VxWorks into a eMMC device. The main challenge is if there is a U-Boot build configuration that supports Ethernet boot for the AM65x. We will respond by mid next-week on possible options.

    Best Regards,

    Schuyler
