AM62A7: The problem of adjusting the sequence of AE and GLBCE

Part Number: AM62A7

Tool/software:

Hi ti experts

In AM62A, there may be a problem of screen brightness jitter during the process of adjusting screen brightness.

I conducted investigations on AE and GLBCE.

After I closed GLBCE, the issue disappeared.

So I think it's due to the simultaneous regulation of GLBCE and AE.

Is there a way to adjust GLBCE after AE adjustment is completed?

  • Hi peng,

I cannot see the flickering clearly from the video.

Is AE adjusting sensor exposure in large steps?

  • Is AE adjusting sensor exposure in large steps?

It's not AE causing the problem.

Firstly, the AE parameters undergo monotonic changes during this process.

Secondly, after bypassing glbce, the flicker disappeared.

Is there a way to implement GLBCE adjustment after AE convergence?

  • Firstly, the AE parameters undergo monotonic changes during this process.

Monotonic changes are not enough to avoid flickering because GLBCE uses the statistics from the previous frame for current frame tone mapping.

If AE changes sensor exposure in large steps, that will cause flickering because GLBCE is not aware of the large sensor exposure change in the current frame.

AE step size may be limited to 20%~25% per frame.

  • AE step size may be limited to 20%~25% per frame.

Which parameter is controlling this in the AE algorithm?

Is there a way to implement GLBCE adjustment after AE convergence?

    Please answer this question.

  • Which parameter is controlling this in the AE algorithm?

That is inside the AE code where adjustment is decided.

Is there a way to implement GLBCE adjustment after AE convergence?

GLBCE takes statistics from previous frame in the GLBCE context memory.
I don't see anyway to get around that.

  • AE step size may be limited to 20%~25% per frame.

    Hi Gang

This solution cannot solve the problem.

May I ask if there are any other solutions?

  • Hi peng,

This solution cannot solve the problem.

It works for most customers when the issue is cause by sensor exposure change and GLBCE context.
I am not sure what is different in your application.

May I ask if there are any other solutions?

I am not aware of any other way.
