Video ADC

As you probably know the AM335X has no dedicated video input. Do you know the digital format requirements - resolution, color depth, frame rate? This information is necessary in order to evaluate if there is a possible solution.

As I see it there are three directions worth investigating:

1. USB interface

2. GPMC

3. PRU_ICSS (pr1_pru0_pru_r31 parallel data in)

 

The first two will certainly need external hardware but may be easier to implement from the software point of view. The third one will require a minimum of external hardware (the PRU parallel data in is a 16-bit parallel latch with external capture enable signal), but this will require some additional software effort to move data from the PRU_ICSS to the ARM. For 2 and 3 (parallel capture) I would suggest a video format like BT.565 with embedded sync.

I don't know what you need. The USB interface can be configured as Host, Device or OTG. The USB PHY's are inside the processor. For the PRU_ICSS there is a reference guide here: https://github.com/beagleboard/am335x_pru_package.
