TIDEP0020: Discrete Power Solution with RTC

Genius 5840 points
Part Number: TIDEP0020
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMIC120,

Hello,

I would like to use Discrete Power Solution in AMIC120 to reduce system cost.

Is my understanding that TIDEP0020 can't be used if we use RTC in AMIC120 correct?

Is there a Discrete Power Solution that can also use RTC with AMIC120?

Regards,

U-SK

  • Hi, let me check on this.

  • Hi Ahmad,

    Thank you for your reply.
Do you have any updates about my question?

  • Using RTC-only with this discrete power solution is possible but not tested and not recommended either. To achieve RTC-only requires a 1.8V supply that is available before the 3.3V supply. For that you will need a 1.8V supply from the main 5V for the VDDS_RTC. Then you would use the internal LDO for CAP_VDD_RTC. And RTC_PORz will need a 1ms delay to make sure the 1.8V supply is stable before RTC reset release. After all that you can finally drive the EN signal to the 3.3V supply in this discrete solution to sequence the SoC supplies.

We don't think this is a good solution due to the power efficiency loss using many LDOs from 5V -> 1.8V > 1.0V for the RTC. An external RTC would be better choice for power sensitive applications. Plus if you add enough external circuits it might not be cheaper than a PMIC.
