TMS320C6455: TMS320C6455

Part Number: TMS320C6455

DEAR SIR AND MADAM

I have a board with the TMS320C6455 on it.

My application on the DSP is running as expected.

but we have found one pin has a design error, Pin RSV09 is connected to GND instead of being tied to DVdd18.

my questions are:

1) what can be the effect of connecting Pin RSV09 to GND and not to DVdd18?

2) what is the peripheral in the DSP connected to this pin?

  • Hi,

    To answer your questions:
1). This could cause some instability in the device (either some kind of noise within the power supplies) or other instability, due to the wrong default state given by connecting RSC09 to GND. We always recommend to follow the datasheet in order to expect stable operation & optimal power-on hours of the device.

2). There is no peripheral per say, that is why it is marked as Rreserved pin. It was probably used for some kind of characterization in the factory.

    Yordan
  • Hello Yordan

Thank you for your quick reply.

There are a few levels of strictness in your Data sheet instructions.

    This pin can be connected…

    It is recommended

These pins should not, pin is not used, it should be connected…

    This pin must not…

On one hand your description of the Error does not sound very severe, "This could cause some instability in the device (either some kind of noise within the power supplies)"
And On the other hand for the RSV09 pin the must word is used in the instructions.
    So it’s a bit confusing.
  • I have not tested what and how strong instabilities will be when connecting a reserved pin to the wrong signal (in your case to GND instead of 1.8V supply). It will have impact on the device operation, it is just that I don't have the info what and how severe it would be.

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
