AM5728: UART Boot Issue on custom board based on AM5728

Hi,

We have designed a custom board based on AM5728, 1GB DDR3L (Only 1 EMIF Interface used). P/N of DDR3 Used is MT41K512M16HA107:IT.

We are trying to boot through UART mode, as the board has provisions to boot only through

1. UART

2. mSATA

Steps followed:

1. sent u-boot-spl.bin file through debug UART3 port successfully. But received @VA!VA!VA! at the terminal. No "CCCC" seen on terminal. Can you please suggest why this behavior has been observed?

The Baud rate settings are 11.5kbps, No parity, No flow control.

2. Transfer of u-boot-file through Y-MODEM failed.

3. Configured DDR3L GEL files according to our custom board designed (file has been attached)EMIF_RegisterConfig_v1.xlsx, We aren't sure if the values that we have generated through the EMIF_Tool_Config is correct.

Please suggest us how to configure boot through UART and also configuration of DDR3L

Dear Mam,

We are following all the steps as mentioned in the document (even board configurations have been made as per doc). The downloading of u-boot-spl.bin file is successful, But after this step, we don't see "CC" on the terminal.

Neither are we able to send u-boot.img file through Y-MODEM as mentioned in the document.

We are trying to load the files through CCS tool, but the behavior is the same.

Any other configuration/settings do we need to look into.

Hello Aaisha,

I am able to reproduce the issue and i am working on it. This will take some more time.

I see a similar e2e post from BEL: https://e2e.ti.com/support/processors/f/791/t/884249

I believe both are referring to the same issue and one of them can be closed to avoid duplicating information
in both places. Let me know if that issue filed by Vijay is the same you are seeing.

Dear Madam,

Vijay is working on the Evaluation kit. There he is able to boot through SD Card and display turns on. But booting via UART is not happening.

I am working on a custom board with no support on SD Card, eMMC, and only 1GB DDR3L IC (EMIF 1 only) used.

I am unable to access DDR.

Aisha,

I used another windows Test PC (Windows 10, 64-bit) and used Activeperl-5.24.2.2403 and followed the steps mentioned in 5342.AM57_UART_Boot_SOP_By_TI_Rio_Final.pdf (Straberry perl did not work for me as well). And with that I am able to get the

UART boot mode working with PSDK 06.01.00.08 and U-boot Version u-boot-2019.01+gitAUTOINC+029e4c009a on TI AM57x EVM.

Please check this from your end and let us know the observations.
