RTOS/AM5748: IAR compiler

Part Number: AM5748

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

From field:

Since IAR compiler(IAR systems) has higher code efficiency historically customer will try to build Processor SDK RTOS by it.

Are there any customers to do same approach for Processor SDK RTOS ?

:

Does your software group have any suggestion for their approach ?

  • The RTOS team have been notified. They will respond here.
  • TI-RTOS / SYS/BIOS currently does not support the IAR tool chain on anything but the cortexM devices.

    Alan
  • The customer think it is necessary to generate execution object by using IAR's compiler of  tool chain due to  the performance issue of  compiler bundled as standard in CCS in order to meet their end user's requirement.
Is there any plan to support  IAR's compiler for processor SDK of AM574x like coretexM device ?  or any 3rd paty(charge base) to do it under TI management ?

  • There are currently no plans to support the IAR tool chain for anything beyond cortexM devices.

In response to comparisons with IAR, the TI compiler tool chain has significantly improved in both performance and footprint over the last year. It now surpasses IAR for most benchmarks in both:

    Alan

  • Though I undestand no plans to support the IAR tool chain anything beyond cortexM devices.

T I compiler does not also  support new command set of A15 in AM574x.

The customer think the perforamce shoud be  IAR > GCC> TI for A15.

Therefore, they are looking for the path to import the CCS project to EWARM, since corexM has alreeady been supported..

  • The TI compiler significantly outperforms GCC in all of our A8 target benchmark tests.

We will likely support the LLVM Clang tool chain for A9, and A15 devices in the future.

We have no plans to support the IAR tool chain and EWARM for anything other than the cortexM devices.

Integrating with IAR workbench would be a significant effort. I don't know how to advise you.

  • Alan

If  you have rough schedule to support  the LLVM Clang tool chain for A9, and A15 devices

could you inform us of  its  schedule ? since it is one of option for future projects.

    Hi TI Experts,

According to this thread, TI Compiler will support the A9 and A15 device. Would you please teach me the schedule to release and to support the PDK?

  • Hi

I am waiting for TIer feedback. Would you please provide answer for my question?

    Best regards.
    Kaka
  • There are currently no plans to support A9 and A15 with the CLANG/LLVM tools.

    Alan

  • Hi Alan,

I am very confusion.... I cannot understand why you had said that such Irresponsible things at above post ("We will likely support the LLVM Clang tool chain for A9, and A15 devices in the future.") even though you do not have a plan to support them.

    Best regards.
    Kaka
  • I apologize for raising your hopes.

Speaking for myself only, I do think it is likely that we will eventually support the LLVM Clang tools for A9 and A15 devices when that tool chain matures a bit more and time permits.

However, I am not in charge of the development plans. When I asked the person in charge of those plans, they responded with "there are no current plans" to do that work. Consequently, I can not provide a schedule nor definitely confirm that we will support the LLVM Clang tools for those devices in the future.
