TMS320C6654: one question of DDR3

Part Number: TMS320C6654

Hi champs,

Datasheet shows that TMS320C6654 supports DDR3-1066, my customer asks that can TMS320C6654 also support DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1866?

Please advise your idea if any, thanks for help.

Luke

  • Luke,

The C6654/2 are limited to DDR3-1066 (1066MT/s with a 533MHz DDRCLK) to help reduce power consumption.  The C6655/7 support up to DDR3-1333 (1333MT/s with a 666MHz DDRCLK).  None of the devices in this family support DDR3 data rates above 1333MT/s.

Note that the DDR bandwidth supported is more than sufficient for the data processing throughput of these DSPs.  Note also that DDR3 memory devices rated for 1600MT/s or 1866MT/s are compatible with these DSPs.  If you believe that you have an application that requires higher DDR bandwidth, we have newer devices that we can recommend which support faster and newer DDR technologies.

  • Tom,

Do we have recommend heatsink part number for C6654 please?

    -Luke

  • Luke,

We do not have a recommended heatsink for this device.  The heatsink implemented is highly dependent on the enclosure, if any, airflow, if any, max ambient temperature and board orientation.  It will also vary depending on the vibration and shock requirements which may require a mechanical attachment to the board or chassis.  For prototyping, there are simply stick-on heatsinks from distributors like Digikey.

Please refer to the Thermal Design Guide for DSP and ARM Application Processors Application Report (SPRABI3A) for more in-depth information.
