Hi Andrew,
Can you elaborate more on what certification they are seeking?
I am only familiar with PID and VID in the context of USB device identification. Accordingly the LM73 would not have an associated PID/VID because it does not have a USB interface. If they are designing a board with a USB interface and the LM73, the LM73 would not determine the USB VID and PID. If that is the case, the VID/PID are typically requested from to USB implementer's forum at https://www.usb.org/, or they are set by the chip they are using for USB communication.

Andrew -
In addition to Brandon's question and comment - the LM73 has ID register (0x07) which can be used to ID the device over I2C. This part also has driver in the Linux kernel already ==> https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v5.5/hwmon/lm73.html, and this kernel is the same that Ubuntu uses. I would think here that it would be impossible to get Ubuntu "certified" at the individual semiconductor device level - if you look at the list of hardware associated with that, they are all full systems. As Brandon suggested, please dig into this a bit more at the customer, to help us all understand exactly what is being requested.
Thank you both, very useful feedback. Customer didn't disclose further info, thanks!!
