TIDEP-0091: 4-20mA level transmitter design for TIDEP-0091

Part Number: TIDEP-0091
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1443, IWR1443BOOST

I would like to design 4-20mA level transmitter referencing TIDEP-0091.

I look at Fig.12 in TIDEP-0091, yellow plot (CUR5V) seems 550mA,and over 20mA.

Is it possible to realize a 4-20mA level transmitter without suppressing the current value to 4mA or less?

  • Hi N.T.

Yes, the TIDEP-0091 was designed to demonstrate IWR1443 used in a 4-20 mA solution.

The current consumption will depend on the voltage applied at a system level. For the IWR1443BOOST a 5 V supply is used and for lower current an appropriate voltage should be used.

  • Hi Akash Gondalia

    Thank you for replying.

I look block diagram in tidrqs3a. System voltage 5V supply PMIC .

Is it possible to control 4mA or less by changing the PMIC control method?

    Regards.

  • Hi N.T

This particular PMIC (LP87524) leverages a 5V input but alternative power solution could work with different supply voltages.

The TIDEP-0091 shows efficacy of using IWR1443 in a 4-20 mA solution because the measurement cycle happens very fast and as a result consumes much less energy. This is why the main power measurement figure is represented in millijoules (or rather mJ per measurement).
