Hi,

 I have designed a PCB  based on the TIDA020004 design. The performance of the mmWave card based on this design seems to be so degraded compared to the design of AWR1642 BOOST. The range of the device, tracking capability, field of view all seems to be significantly less when compared to the AWR 1642boost design. What are the possible reasons for this. Also the TIDA020004 design is not available in the market for sales right? Is it possible to get that module for comparing.

    This could be caused by several issues.

    Did you change the stackup? If so, did you simulate and redesign the RF transition and trace to be impedance matched with the different substrate?

    Have you verified the manufacturing tolerances on your board? Generally, this should be done with any manufacturer when building boards with sensitive traces at these high frequencies. Before we use any manufacturer, we design a coupon board that can be used to verify the S11 performance, etc. Any issues with manufacturing tolerances will impact the performance and alter the impedance matching.

    Did you change any portions of the RF design and did you simulate these changes before manufacturing?

    Did you verify the power design on the PCB? Did you check for large voltage drops on the MMIC supplies when chirping? Did you simulate and verify the DC drop on all of the supplies?

    All of the above will have significant impact on the RF performance of your boards.
