AFE3010: AFE3010 slower response time

Part Number: AFE3010

Hello,

Is there a preferred method to delay the trip time in the AFE3010 GFCI circuit based on the amount of leakage current?  The allowable trip time per UL943 is fairly long at > 5mA but the AFE3010 trips fairly fast.

  • David,

Our expert on this device is out of office at the moment. I will notify him of this post, but it will most likely be next Monday when we can properly address your issue here.

  • Hey David,

I apologize for the delayed response.

There really is no way to delay the trip time for the 5mA threshold as these times are set internally according to the measured line voltage zero-crossings at PH pin. This is the slowest trip time the AFE3010 is capable of.

Maybe there is a way to insert some signal-delaying circuitry in between the SCR pin and SCR gate, but the SCR self-test would not work and thus would need to be disabled by setting SEL=float. I'm not sure if you would want to not use this feature, but this is the only way it could work.

    Sincerely,

    Peter
