LDC1101: Can the same clock source be connected to the reference clock input of multiple LDC1101?

Part Number: LDC1101

I have three LDC1101 chips in a space constrained design. To save space, I would like to connect the output of a clock source to the reference clock inputs of all four LDC1101 chips. Another forum post mentioned that the reference clock input has a "wide margin" of operation, however, the datasheet gives me the impression that this input must be as clean as possible for proper operation. Is driving the clock reference input like this harmful to LDC1101 operation or doable, but with caveats (i.e. adding series resistances)?

  • Froylan,

As long as your clock source can support the fan-out, and your layout provides clean, synchronized  signals to your devices, then it should be okay.
The one caution is to be sure the clock lines that feed the LDC1101 are symmetrical (same length), have the same delays from the clock source, and the same rise/fall behavior at the LDC inputs.

    Regards,
